Today there is a reunion in Geneva in the semi-final of the first leg of the Champions Hockey League. Servette keeper Jussi Olkinuora (33) has already played against Lukko Rauma twice this season. In the domestic Liiga, with his former club Lahti Pelicans (0:4 and 6:3). So he must know something about the opponent. ‘I’m just a goalkeeper. My job is to stop the pucks,” says the Finnish Olympic champion and two-time world champion, laughing.

“It’s true, I’m a kind of spy,” he admits with amusement, “but I think the team knows more about this opponent than I do, having already played against them in the same competition this season. So I don’t think I can help in that regard.” Two months ago, Geneva, which had already qualified for the knockout stages, lost 3-2 in Rauma.

“It’s a big challenge,” says Olkinuora about the match against sixth place in the Finnish Liiga. “This is a team that is known for working very hard and not giving up. That is their trademark.” He does not comment further on technical or tactical questions. “As a goalkeeper you don’t have the time to prepare too specifically for every match.”

“I knew Servette’s Finns better”

It won’t be anything special to play against a team from your home country. “I don’t think I know anyone from Rauma,” he says, laughing. “I knew the Servette Finns much better because I often played with them in the national team.”

It’s been a month since Olkinuora signed with Servette after the injury of master goalkeeper Robert Mayer. He has played every game since: one in the Champions League and six in the Championship. Despite excellent statistics (1.81 goals conceded per match and 93.37 percent save rate in the league) and performances with just one defeat, the goalkeeper says the acclimatization process is not yet completely complete.
