After an excellent preliminary round, FC St. Gallen announced during the week that it would immediately divorce ex-sports director Alain Sutter (55). A blow without announcement, because Sutter and President Matthias Hüppi (65) were considered a dream team during their many years together in Eastern Switzerland.
A few days after the shock, Sutter commented on the firing for the first time. “I am sad about VR’s decision to release me, but I respect it without any negative feelings,” he wrote on his Instagram profile.
The ex-sports director is not shedding any bad blood, on the contrary. Instead, he feels deep gratitude that he was able to prove himself as sports director at a traditional club like FC St. Gallen for six years. “I have experienced a lot of appreciation in my life. But what I have experienced since my release, I have never experienced to this extent. This is the real reward for my work over the past six years.”
What appeals to Sutter are the reactions of the fans who commented on all possible channels after the dismissal. Most responses were pro-Sutter. Many users said that FCSG’s current success is largely due to its efforts. One fan even said: “It was a legendary time.”
