Ajax have to pay a fine of 1,500 euros for goals that were too small in the main field of the De Toekomst sports complex. That was decided by the European football association UEFA.
Before the game in the last preliminary round of the Champions League between the women of Ajax and Arsenal, they were ten centimeters too small.
A day after the 1-0 defeat by the English, Ajax conceded that something had gone wrong in the goal exchange at De Toekomst, where the game took place. As a result, the targets did not meet the required dimensions.
Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall said the goals were four inches too small. “Strange playing against a big club like Ajax, measuring the goals and realizing they are four inches too small. I’ve never experienced anything like that,” he said after the game.
“Once Arsenal and UEFA found out about it, it was fixed before kick-off,” was the Amsterdam club’s reaction.
Arsenal won the game with a goal from Orange international Vivianne Miedema to reach the group stage of the Champions League. The English started on Wednesday with a 5-1 win over defending champions Olympique Lyonnais.
