Ski racer Stefan Luitz is set to make his World Cup comeback, less than three months after breaking his ankle. The 31-year-old is part of the German Ski Association (DSV) squad for the giant slalom classic on Saturday in Adelboden, Switzerland. The Allgäu native, who was repeatedly set back by injuries (two cruciate ligament tears), suffered a fracture of his right outer ankle and a syndesmosis tear during training in mid-October.
During the holidays, Luitz had already posted a photo of the training on social media and wrote: “I gave myself a Christmas present. The first time I was in the goals again, it felt great.” He also revealed that he and his wife Sarah are expecting their second child.
Luitz reached the giant slalom podium seven times in his career and won one. However, Adelboden was no guarantee of success for Luitz. Last year’s 20th place in the Riesen is his best result at the Chuenisbärgli. (AFP/SME)
