This is how the former Super League legionnaires are doing: three of the four FCB departures have had an impact

Andy Diouf (20): from Basel to Lens

With a transfer fee of around 14 million francs, the former Basel player is the second most expensive transfer in Lens history. But he has not yet gained the upper hand. In November and December he was on the field for a total of only 97 minutes. “Diouf is still in the shadows” was the recent headline in “L’Équipe”. But to call it a flop transfer would be premature. At the age of 20, Diouf still has plenty of time to get started.

Riccardo Calafiori (21): from Basel to Bologna

The Roman came to FC Basel as a left back in 2022. Last winter, Heiko Vogel converted him into a central defender in a three-man chain. Since his transfer to Bologna – after poor final performances in the FCB outfit – he has played as a central defender in a back four. He does it like a veteran. He is always one of the best in the surprise team of Serie A. His transfer value has increased from 4.5 to 13.5 million francs.

Wouter Burger (22): from FC Basel to Stoke City

The Dutch midfielder left FCB as a top player. He is now the same at his new club in the English Championship. With his physical playing style he fits perfectly with England. As in his Basel days, he is also diligently collecting yellow cards in his Stoke uniform – he is currently ranked 6. Last year in Switzerland there were 8 yellow and 2 red cards throughout the season.

Andy Pelmard (23): from FC Basel to Clermont

The central defender is at the bottom of the rankings in Ligue 1 and plays almost every match. He is still waiting for his first ever league goal. But that won’t be an easy undertaking in Clermont. Pascal Gastien’s team, who has been in office for seven years, has only celebrated a goal eleven times.

Mohamed Amoura (23): from Lugano to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise

Lugano received 4 million francs for the Algerian this summer, a significant transfer fee. The market value has now more than doubled. Because Amoura is considered one of the great discoveries in Belgium with his 16 goals this season in all competitions. In the league he scores every 67 minutes. Crazy.

Tomás Ribeiro (24): from classification to Vitoria Guimarães

Just like with the rankings, the central defender is ready for his new club. But that is not a given. After all, the trainer who guided him to the north of Portugal has already left. Álvaro Pacheco is now the third coach on the sidelines and Guimarães is in fifth place in the rankings. Ribeiro has made a name for himself as a cup monster among his new fans with two goals in two cup rounds.

Matej Maglica (25): from St. Gallen to Darmstadt

The Croatian central defender has had a wild six months. This summer, Stuttgart will bring him in from Eastern Switzerland via a buyback option. But Maglica does not stay with the Swabians for long. It goes on loan to Darmstadt. There he became a regular player, but received the red card twice. So far, no one has been sent off twice in the Bundesliga. However, it is already clear that Lilien will sign Maglica permanently this summer.

Aiyegun Tosin (25): from FCZ to Lorient

Tosin’s French adventure started promisingly: two goals in the first three games. But since the end of September there has been nothing to cheer about, especially off the field. In mid-December, after the match against Marseille, he was confronted with hateful comments against himself and his daughter (4) on social media. Tosin has not filed a complaint. However, he talked about it in an interview and was particularly shocked by the insults against his daughter.

Marius Müller (30): from Lucerne to Schalke 04

As soon as “Mülli” arrived in the Ruhr area, he took advantage of an injury to goalkeeping legend Ralf Fährmann. The ex-Luzerner can therefore start the season as number one. But after six games there was a setback. Against Magdeburg he tore a tendon in his adductor area. The result was surgery and a month’s break. Müller has been training again for a few days. He should be fully fit again for the start of the second half of the season. A duel ensues between him and Fährmann.
