Revenge is sweet: Tomba buried Accola in the snow

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 fmXrkB”>

March 1992. The ski family gathers for the season finale in Crans-Montana USA. Wins the slalom Alberto Tomba for Paul Accola. But in the duel for the overall World Cup, “Tomba la Bomba” remains only in second place behind the Davos resident, and Tomba could not pass that up. He punishes his great rival and friend with a fight in the snow. It was only three years later that Tomba could call himself the overall World Cup winner.

“On December 24 there will be presents for Christmas, on the 25th for my birthday.” Ramona Bachmann has never worried about her date of birth. The Nati attacker (142 games, 58 goals), two-time winner with Chelsea in 2018 and under contract with Paris SG since 2020, turns 33 on Monday.

The record winners of the Spengler Cup

1 Team Canada: Last tournament win in 2019 – 16 titles
Since 1984, Team Canada has won the Spengler Cup 16 times. This year, Canada will get help from a hockey legend: Joe Thornton, who also played 55 games for Davos, is putting together the team as general manager.

2 HC Davos: Last tournament win in 2011 – 15 titles
Of course, Davos was already present at the first Spengler Cup 100 years ago. By the way, Oxford University won the first event. The host team had to wait until 1927 for their first tournament victory: a 3-2 victory against Berlin.

3 LTC Prague: Last tournament win in 1948 – 7 titles
It was not until 1932 that there were two winners. Even after extra time it was still 0-0 – both finalists Oxford and LTC Prague were declared tournament winners. Prague last visited Davos in 1948. In 1964 the club was incorporated into Slavia Prague.

4 Dukla Jihlava: Last tournament win in 1982 – 5 titles (10 times in the top 2)
From 1967 to 1991, Dukla Jihlava was Czechoslovak champion twelve times and was successful at the Spengler Cup. The last time in Davos in 1984, Dukla was one of the top two teams – only Team Canada was better that year.

5 HK Spartak Moscow: Last tournament victory in 1990 – 5 titles (5 times in the top 2)
In 1967, Lokomotiv Moscow was the first team from Russia to play in Davos. City rival Spartak won the tournament for the first time in 1980 and are four-time Soviet champions. Today, the team plays in the KHL and currently sits in second place in its division.

0.73 seconds

This is Marco Odermatt’s average lead over second place in his 17 World Cup victories. Only once was it really close: at the season opener in October 2021, the Austrian Roland Leitinger was only 0.07 seconds slower than the man from Nidwalden. Unbelievable: in Santa Caterina and Adelboden Odermatt did not win by 0.72 or 0.74 seconds – no, exactly by 0.73!
