The New Jersey Devils are having a night to forget in the NHL. Despite goals from Jonas Siegenthaler (26) and Timo Meier (27), they lost 3:6 at home to the Edmonton Oilers.
In the home game against Edmonton, the Devils missed the start twice. After just under five and a half minutes, the guests from Western Canada are already 2-0 ahead. The match is already over for Swiss goalkeeper Akira Schmid (23), who parried only two of four shots. The Emmentaler is replaced by the Czech Vitek Vanecek.
Then it gets better. Siegenthaler scored in the 22nd minute with an accurate long shot into the high corner to make it 2-2. It is the first goal of the season for the defender. Meier scored the opening goal in the 37th minute to make it 3-2 – it was his first scoring point for Appenzeller after nine games without a goal or assist.
But at the start of the final third things get even worse for New Jersey, who have now turned the game around with three goals: Edmonton manages to turn things around again from 2:3 to 5:3 with three goals inside 69 seconds – and thus the final turning point.
The Devils, led by captain Nico Hischier (24), leave the ice as losers for the third time in a row. While the Valais native does not score, Jonas Siegenthaler and Timo Meier, the other two Swiss field players in the Newark team, are on the scoring list.
The two Swiss defenders Roman Josi (33) and Janis Moser (23), who achieved an away victory with their teams, have reason to celebrate. Josi wins 4-2 with the Nashville Predators in Philadelphia, Moser celebrates his fourth victory in a row with the Arizona Coyotes 5-2 in San Jose. Pius Suter (27), on the other hand, lost 3:4 after extra time with the Vancouver Canucks in Dallas. (SDA)
