It’s just a few turns on the neatly prepared track. No goals have been set yet, no time has been measured. And yet: for Aline Danioth, this descent so close to Christmas means the world. Ten months ago the woman from Uri tore her cruciate ligament. For the fourth time. At only 25 years old.

Once again, in the spring of 2023, the Swiss slalom hope was at the beginning of a long, difficult journey that would involve operations, pain, depression in the head and tough rehabilitation sessions.

Also checked off the last rehab point

A few weeks ago, Danioth gave a glimpse into her comeback diary on Instagram. From medical procedures to small milestones such as the first strength training or the first walk, everything was neatly listed and checked off.

Now she shows what steps she has taken in her rehabilitation.

At the end of this list was an entry specifically marked: “SKIING”. Finally skiing. At that moment, the check mark was still missing in the box next to that milestone. Now Danioth has also achieved this goal.

“Grateful for the people who lifted me up”

“Thousands of butterflies in her stomach,” is how Danioth describes her feelings in her profile after the long period of suffering became a great passion again for the first time. «Proud of the work I have done, grateful for the people who lifted me up when necessary, proud of my body, grateful that I fought against all the negative voices in my head, already relieved that I decided to stay fighting for my dreams and my passion.”

The road to becoming the best skier in the world is still long for Danioth. But the three-time junior world champion and World Cup gold medalist at the 2019 team competition in Are (Sweden) has learned to fight his way back step by step. This makes her even happier about what she has already achieved. Nothing makes this clearer than the conclusion of the video of Danioth’s first comeback ride. After the elegant wave, she spreads her arms wide, overjoyed, and can no longer contain herself from laughing. “TO SKI”? BILL!
