FC Utrecht has qualified for the second round of the KNVB Cup without convincing. Two goals from Sander van de Streek and a late goal from substitute Sean Klaiber were enough for neighboring and third division team Sportlust’46 from Woerden: 0:3.

Van de Streek scored the first goal of the game after 18 minutes by hitting the ball in the second half from a Djevencio van der Kust cross.

With twenty minutes remaining, Van de Streek capitalized on a missed header from keeper Romero Antonioli. The resistance of the courageous Sportlust’46 was then broken. Klaiber provided the final chord in added time.

The Woerden amateurs, who surprisingly knocked out Quick Boys a month ago, still had chances, especially in the first half through Kesly den Haag and Joshua Patrick, but Utrecht goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas saved twice.

Utrecht, who lost 6-1 to PSV on Sunday, then took the initiative and had a star in Van de Streek. Anastasios Douvikas missed opportunities for more, among other things, but Klaiber had a keen eye.

A setback for Utrecht was the loss of the injured Django Warmerdam before half-time.

Sparta escapes

Sparta Rotterdam, the surprise of this Eredivisie season and opponents of FC Utrecht on Sunday, arrived at OFC Oostzaan with a scare.

The last of the second division went down late: 1:3.

Substitute Tobias Lauritsen scored only the second Sparta goal in the closing stages and moments later the final score.

In the first half, Sparta quickly took the lead through Jason Lokilo, but OFC got aside thanks to a converted penalty from Niels Butter.

Extra time seemed imminent until the 81st minute, but Norway’s Lauritsen ultimately changed his mind.
