YB striker Jean-Pierre Nsame (30) scored nine goals in the first half of this Super League season. Only FCZ wing Jonathan Okita (27) is on par with him in these statistics.
Amazing: Nsame reaches these values even though he is not seeded and has to share playing time in the center of the attack with Silvère Ganvoula (27) and Cedric Itten (26, currently injured).
In the league he only averages 56 minutes per game! In the 3-1 win over Lausanne-Ouchy, it took 64 minutes before YB coach Raphael Wicky (46) replaced him for Ganvoula. If you include the matches in the Swiss Cup and the Champions League, the average playing time of the Cameroonian, who has just been nominated as Player of the Year 2023 by the Swiss Football League, drops to 53 minutes.
Until now, Nsame has kept a low profile in public. But after the three-pointer at SLO (3-1 win for YB), the goalscorer burst out: “I am happy for the team and for the victory. But I’m also angry. Really angry,” he says to “ Le Matin».
“What player in Europe or elsewhere, who has done so much for his club and feels as fit as I do, would be okay with this situation? Because yes, I am really in shape.”

Since his YB debut in 2017, ‘Schämpu’, as Bern fans affectionately call him, has scored no fewer than 109 league goals in seven seasons (in 2022 he was loaned to Serie B club Venice for half a season). He is currently two short of overtaking the best goalscorer in Super League history: Marco Streller (42). It would be an emotional highlight of his career, says Nsame.
