Marco Odermatt continues his gigantic Super-G series – on the Saslong the man from Nidwalden managed to reach the World Cup podium in this division for the tenth time in a row. In third place, the 26-year-old lost only three-hundredths of Vincent Kriechmayr’s best time.
“If the course had been more demanding, Odi would probably have won,” says ZDF expert Marco Büchel (52, Kitzbühel winner in 2008). But French ex-downhill specialist Yannick Bertrand (43, 4th place in Val-d’Isère in 2007) has set a course without technical cliffs. “That was the easiest Super-G I’ve ever driven,” Odermatt confirms. His roommate Justin Murisier adds: “Marco completed three quarters of the route crouching. After the race we said to each other that this race was kindergarten.”

Instead, we experienced one of the worst Super-Gs in history in terms of course determination.”
In the same breath, Trenkwalder defends the French coach: “Despite everything, what he did was in accordance with the regulations. And the athletes have plenty of opportunities to train for Super-G in this way during their preparation.” But this French Super-G variant was certainly a total flop for the international reputation of this discipline. Marco Büchel: “In this case it was almost impossible for me to explain to the German public the difference between a Super-G and a downhill…”
