Attilio Biasca (20) was with his girlfriend last Sunday when his mobile phone suddenly rang. He did not know the number that the young star of EVZ saw on the display. He briefly considered whether he should answer the call, but then decided against it. Fortunately: Nati coach Patrick Fischer reported on the other side. And he told him that he was renominating him to the Nati. “I was completely surprised, I couldn’t find words, it was an incredible feeling,” Biasca remembers.

And so the youngster was the only newcomer to join the national team for the Swiss Ice Hockey Games in Zurich. “The first time I stood in the same dressing room with all these top players, I was a bit nervous and wondered where I had ended up,” he admits with a smile. But that soon leveled off on the ice.

Grab the Nati opportunity

This summer, Attilio Biasca returned to his home club EV Zug after two years with the Halifax Mooseheads in the Canadian junior league QMJHL. «It was a cool time that helped me grow as a hockey player and person. But it is also nice to be home again,” he emphasizes.

Biasca made an immediate impact in the National League. The power striker already had six goals and four assists to his name in his debut season. “We have good coaches and players in Zug who help me a lot. “It allowed me to take my chance and now I am here with the national team and I want to take my chance too,” he says with healthy confidence, but without sounding arrogant. The former junior international wants to progress in his career step by step.

Lots of medical advice in the family

His background is also interesting. Biasca was born in Samedan GR, he started his ice hockey career at EHC St. Moritz before the family moved to Lucerne because his father Nicola Biasca (60) started working there as an orthopedic specialist. He comes from Ticino, played for Ambri in the 1980s, was part of Leventiner’s medical staff for many years and has also made a name for himself at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) as someone who deals with concussions and increasing safety for players.

Does Attilio also have medical flair – and ambitions in this direction? “No, no. “That’s not my world,” he waves. “This is the territory of my father and my sister Valentina, who is also going to be a doctor. My number 1 is ice hockey. If I need medical advice, I’m happy to ask for it.” “, says the upcoming national player, who is completing the KV training.

Three languages at the kitchen table

Born in Graubünden, resident in Central Switzerland, lived in Canada, roots in Ticino through his father and also in the Czech Republic through his mother Gabriela. How does Biasca feel now? “That’s difficult to answer,” he says, laughing: “I see myself as a bit of a mix of everything.” At home the Biascas speak three languages: first German, then Czech and occasionally Italian. It really cannot be said that Attilio Biasca’s young life was not varied.
