This is unusual. YB has to share its last big football night of the year in the Champions League with the Super League. While the Berners challenge the Bulls in Leipzig (6:45 p.m.), there is an additional match against FCZ in Winterthur (8:30 p.m.).
A national championship match on a regular Champions League Wednesday – is that actually allowed? That is it. There are no instructions from UEFA in this area. But in the past, when all Premier League matches started at 8.45pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, postponed Super League matches were scheduled for the early evening so there was no direct overlap.
But that is no longer possible, because the Champions League match days were staggered with two kick-off times (6:45 PM and 9:00 PM). Winterthur and Zurich are now playing at the same time as big hits such as Atletico – Lazio or Dortmund – PSG.
But the football evening in this form has been approved by everyone involved. From the Swiss football league. And especially from the TV channel Blue, which owns both the Champions League and the Super League rights in Switzerland. The pay-TV channel gave the green light for the new location in Winterthur because it has no direct influence on the royal YB image.
This way, SRF also comes to its live game at the usual time. Winterthur – Zurich would have been SRF’s live match ten days ago when the Schützenwiese sank in the snow. Now SRF will also be there live on the catch-up date. And for once, Blue also has a Zurich derby on the program on a premier class evening.
