FC Bayern may soon have to do without the support of their own fans in the Champions League. The European Football Union (Uefa) has fined the German record champions 40,000 euros for the misconduct of the Munich supporters and threatened to expel the fans.
The reason for the punishment was the use of prohibited fireworks and the throwing of objects from the Bayern fan block at Premier League matches, in particular at the most recent guest match in Copenhagen in early October (2-1). If the offense is breached again there is a risk that the club’s own fans will be banned from a match.
In addition to the fine, FC Bayern will not be allowed to purchase a contingent of tickets for away fans for its next match in the UEFA competitions. The latter will be suspended for two years from the date of the judgment (until October 16, 2025).
For this reason, before Tuesday’s away match at Manchester United, the Munich team made an “urgent appeal” to their fans to “refrain from using fireworks in the stadium in the future and to refrain from further misconduct.” The topic will also be put on the agenda for the next meeting of the “Fan Dialogue Working Group”.
