After the Super League match between Lausanne-Sport and Servette, there were riots in Lausanne. According to the Vaud cantonal police, a police officer was slightly injured.
Before and after the match, fans from Lausanne and Geneva clashed in the stadium, the Vaud cantonal police announced on Sunday evening. Lausanne Ultras also attacked the private security guards and police around the stadium, throwing bottles and pyrotechnic objects.
The police also had to intervene with Geneva fans on the way to the train station, it was said. They used rubber bullets and tear gas. There was extensive damage to the city’s furnishings and stadium infrastructure. The security forces were deployed with 130 people.
Even during the match – which ended in a 1-1 draw – the mood among the fans in the Léman derby was boiling. The fan camps drew attention to themselves with fireworks. They caused a late kick-off and later some stoppages in the match. Only when the stadium announcer informed the home fans that the match was in danger of being abandoned did the situation calm down somewhat. (SDA/kes)
