3rd European championship title for Ticino: Ponti also invincible over 50 meters dolphin

Noé Ponti also wins his third gold medal in dolphin at the European Short Course Swimming Championships. After victories in the 100 meters and 200 meters, he also swims over the 50 meters away from the competition.

After winning the 200 meters on Friday evening, Ponti is still looking for a fly in the ointment. His time was not what he had planned. But even over the longest distance it was enough to win. He will certainly be happy with his winning time in the dolphin sprint on Saturday.

Dajkovic misses medal

In 21.79 seconds he missed the world record of the Brazilian Nicholas Santos (October 2018 in Budapest) and the Hungarian Szebasztian Szabo (November 2021 in Kazan) by only four hundredths. Ponti improved his personal record by 17 hundredths. Szabo relegates Ponti to second place in the final.

Ponti loses five hundredths to Szabo in terms of reaction time at the start. On the first length he increased the lead to 22 hundredths. However, Szabo is no longer able to counter Ponti’s stamina and pace on the second throw.

Antonio Djakovic has to settle for 7th place in the final of the 200 meter freestyle. The 21-year-old from Zurich – silver medalist at the European Championships in the large group over this distance a year ago in Rome – lost 2.12 seconds to winner Matthew Richards and 1.98 seconds to the bronze medal.
