European champion Steve Guerdat also performed well at the CHI Geneva. In the top ten final of the best ten riders in the world rankings, which was worth more than 500,000 francs, he won over Venard.
The Jurassic rider won this prestigious event for a record third time. The now 41-year-old won with Jalisca Solier in 2010 and with Alamo in 2018.
Guerdat will ride in the Million Grand Prix on Sunday with the mare Dynamix, which brought him to European Championship gold this year.
Three couples got off to a great start on a course that, in addition to three obstacles with the maximum permitted height of 1.65 m, also entailed a number of other difficulties. Of the trio with Guerdat, defending champion and world number one Henrik von Eckermann of Sweden and the replacement Shane Sweetman of Ireland with James Kann Cruz, the Swiss won in round two as he was the only one to show two clear rounds.
Martin Fuchs in the saddle of Conner Jei took 5th place. The man from Zurich was on the defensive after the first round and eight penalties. The second round went perfectly: a flawless ride plus a top time. Fuchs qualified for this event for the fifth time and equaled his best result.
The top ten final at the Palexpo exhibition center brings together the best ten riders from the world rankings. The event enjoys a high status among active participants – and not just because of the generous donations and exclusive line-up. This test is organized annually by the International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC), the association of show jumping horses. (SDA)
