The German Football Association is in the red.

The low-level sports flight also has economic consequences for the German Football Association. In its financial report, the DFB reports a loss of 4.2 million euros for 2022.

The association justifies the deficit with the sporting failures of the national team, the construction costs and the ongoing expenses for the almost 190 million euros campus in Frankfurt, as well as the disputes with the tax authorities.

According to its own information, the DFB expects a balanced result for 2023. The free reserve, which is important on the balance sheet, still amounts to 41 million euros. However, if next year’s European home championships are also disappointing for the national team, “we have a more serious problem,” financial director Stephan Grunwald explains to the “Handelsblatt”.
