The inn “El Camineto” is located right next to the finish area in Cortina d’Ampezzo (It) and has been a household name in the Dolomites since 1968. From Wednesday, the restaurant will have a new owner who will be known to sports fans: Flavio Briatore.
The 73-year-old was team principal of the Benetton Formula 1 racing team between 1989 and 1997, where he led Michael Schumacher (54) to his first two world titles (1994 and 1995). In 2002, Briatore returned to the racing circuit, then as team boss at Renault. There he discovered Fernando Alonso (42) and was significantly involved in his 2005 and 2006 World Cup titles.
And now Briatore is taking over the traditional restaurant business with the company he founded, Majestas, which already operates restaurants. “We are proud to open a new chapter in our history,” the Italian quotes in “La Stampa”.
The ex-partner of top model Heidi Klum (50) hopes that the 2026 Olympic Games, which will take place in Cortina and Milan, will allow business to flourish. “It will be a big challenge, but we are sure it will be a successful formula.”
Until now, the restaurant was run by the Melon family. After 55 years of family tradition, it is now in foreign hands; Romeo and Orietta Melon have been running the inn for twenty years. “It was a wonderful adventure and we pass the baton with best wishes to those who love our Cortina and hold it in their hearts just like us.” (ch)
