The 4-star superior private hotel with 96 rooms, 2 suites and 6 meeting rooms is located in the south of Stuttgart, slightly elevated on the edge of the forest, in the immediate vicinity of the television tower. It offers the national team the comfort and peace they need to play a successful European Championship.

The Waldau Stadium, where the regional league team Stuttgarter Kickers plays, is within walking distance of the hotel. This also includes a tennis court, sauna, wellness and fitness room. In 2020, the DFB team prepared for a Nations League match at the Waldhotel Degerloch.

Closer to the Swiss border than to the location

Although the two locations Cologne (370 km) and Frankfurt (200 km) are not close, the hotel is logistically well located. Both Stuttgart city center, including the main station, and the airport are only about a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Because the national team plays the first two preliminary round matches against Hungary (June 15) and Scotland (June 19) in Cologne, the travel for the matches takes place the day before the match. The third group match against host country Germany starts on June 23 in Frankfurt.

After the draw on Saturday in Hamburg, the SFV delegation and Nati coach Murat Yakin visited several hotels. Also on the shortlist were the Vesper Hotel in Wuppertal and the Hotel Klosterpforte near Bielefeld, both located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Ultimately, after considering all parameters, SFV officials awarded the contract to Stuttgart, which is only about 150 kilometers from the Swiss border.

The Swiss actually wanted to live in Mainz

The actual favourite, accommodation near Mainz, was denied to Switzerland due to the group draw, as the teams were then divided into three base camp zones. By the way: at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the national team lived in Bad Bertrich in the Eifel, near the Luxembourg and Belgian borders. Distance to Cologne and Frankfurt: about 150 kilometers.

All teams must have chosen their team hotel by mid-January. As was the case during the 2021 European Championships in Herzogenaurach, host nation Germany will be based in the “Adidas Homeground”. From there it is more than 200 kilometers to Frankfurt, where Germany meets the national team. The referees stay at the Kempinski Hotel in Frankfurt. The video center is located in the International Broadcast Center in Leipzig.
