Murat Yakin (49) has achieved all his goals during his time as national coach: qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar, staying in the Nations League, reaching the World Cup round of 16 and now also the European Championship ticket. And in his analysis, he has apparently convinced those in charge of how he wants to get the Nati back on track.
According to the SFV bosses, Yakin has shown how he wants to help the team and staff move forward again. He may get a new assistant, as Vincent Cavin (48) has been considered the new sports director in Lausanne for weeks. The Vaudois was not Yakin’s choice when he took office in the summer of 2021. Cavin, who worked for the association for years and was a video analyst under Yakin’s predecessor Petkovic, had offered himself.
After clear cracks appeared within the team in the autumn and the dispute between Yakin and Granit Xhaka (31) had been simmering for months, the captain recently spoke positively about Yakin. “I hope we go to the European Championship with him,” said Xhaka in Bucharest.
