Belinda Bencic is a guest in the podcast “Cic-Off Talk” by Sven Dalla Palma (l.) and Francisco Rodríguez.

At the beginning of November, Belinda Bencic (26) revealed a sweet secret. She and her partner Martin Hromkovic (41) are expecting a child. In the podcast “Cic-Off Talk” with Francisco Rodríguez and Sven Dalla Palma, the tennis player talks about her happiness. “We are really happy,” she says, beaming from ear to ear. This will be a new phase of life.

Yet she emphasizes that “my tennis career is far from over.” Bencic assumes that children and career can be combined well. “But the focus will clearly be on the family.”

2023 has been an emotional rollercoaster for her. First two tournament victories, then injuries and difficulty finding her stride on the field and finally the baby news. “Having a family has always been a big dream of mine,” she says. “That is ultimately the most important thing you can have in life.”

Federer as coach of Bencic?

There is only one other dream that Bencic has not been able to realize so far. “I really want to win a Grand Slam,” says the Olympic champion. But if it doesn’t work out, “I can say I gave it my all.” After all, we in Switzerland are a bit spoiled when it comes to tennis.

Who does she mean by that? Roger Federer (42). She was able to learn a lot from him – especially because the two won the Hopman Cup together twice (2018 and 2019). Although Bencic admits she initially felt pressured to watch her matches live. She was able to get a lot out of their time together. “He showed me how to deal with the media and how to protect myself in life, for example financially,” she says. Bencic didn’t explicitly ask about it, it just came up in the conversation.

Can she imagine Federer one day becoming her coach? Bencic laughs and says, “I don’t think I have that much money.” Only to add a little later that she had never thought about it before. (beer)
