Maria Therese Tviberg’s face contorted in pain.

In mid-February, Norwegian Maria Therese Tviberg (29) celebrated the greatest success of her career. In Méribel (Fr) she became world champion in the parallel race ahead of Wendy Holdener (30). In addition, she and the team also won silver after winning Olympic bronze in 2022.

Nine months later, Tviberg finds himself in the snow of Killington (USA). On Saturday she fell in the giant slalom and suffered pain in her left knee. The consequences? Cheeky.

For the technology specialist, the season is over before it even starts. “It is a serious knee injury,” says the Norwegian Ski Association. The exact size is not yet known. Further research will provide clarity on this. Tviberg traveled home for this.

Only participated in 83 World Cup races

She writes on Instagram: “Depressed, but not defeated.” Unfortunately, she knows all too well what serious injuries mean. This has caused her to miss several seasons, which is why she has only competed in 83 World Cup competitions so far. After being unable to participate in a race in the winter of 2015/16, she was slowed down again in November 2017. Tviberg fell during downhill training in Lake Louise (Ka) and tore his cruciate ligament.

After her comeback, she turned her back on the fast disciplines and concentrated on slalom and giant slalom from now on. And yet he was not spared from the injury witch. In January 2021, she fell in the giant slalom and suffered an ankle injury. And now her medical file has another chapter added.

But Tviberg has proven she is a fighter. Its competitors are also convinced of this. In her Instagram post she is flooded with get well wishes. Mélanie Meillard, Aline Danioth, Mikaela Shiffrin and Paula Moltzan – all are convinced that Tviberg will return this time too. (beer)
