Manuela Mölgg reports on social media with a photo from her hospital bed.

The Italian Manuela Mölgg (40) was active in the Ski World Cup for 18 years and took part in 283 races (14 podium places). Despite a long career, the former technology specialist was spared serious injuries. Only because of back problems did she have to take a break every now and then.

But now Mölgg has it. Five and a half years after her discharge, she was seriously injured and had to undergo two shoulder operations within a few months. She didn’t hurt herself on the ski slopes, but at home. “The accident happened in August,” Mölgg told sportnews.bz. “While I was holding my son in my arms, the tendon ruptured.”

Shoulder complaints for a long time

Ben was born in early May 2021. His father is also no stranger to the ski circus. Werner Heel (41) celebrated three World Cup victories as a speed specialist. At the 2009 World Cup, he invited Mölgg by text message for a drink at the bar – to distract her from the fact that she was eliminated as leader at half time during the second slalom run. “Shortly afterwards there was a spark between us,” she once told Blick.

Mölgg had been suffering from her damaged shoulder for a long time. She fell into this repeatedly during her career and continued to struggle with pain after her retirement. After the accident, the first operation did not go as planned. “Recent examination showed that the tendon had ruptured again.” That’s why she went under the knife again in mid-November.

Humor not lost

Mölgg must rest his shoulder for at least a month. She has not lost her sense of humor because of this. “It seems like I saved all the injuries for after my career,” she says. She describes it as a “difficult moment” on social media.

Mölgg doesn’t mind that she can’t ski at the moment because of this. Your priorities have shifted. “I enjoy life at home with the little one, my family and the hotel,” she says. She runs the hotel together with her brother Manfred Mölgg (41), also a former skier. (beer)
