Victory in the final against Italy: Swiss curlers win European Championship gold for the first time

The Italians, with Elena Mathis from Zurich in third place, fought back brilliantly in the final as outsiders. With their only two-man house in the match, they equalized in the 9th end, making the score 5:5. In the 10th end, the Swiss took advantage of the last stone for a triumphant victory, completing their excellent performances throughout the week.

Looking across the eleven matches of the entire European Championship tournament, Carole Howald, Selina Witschonke, Silvana Tirinzoni and Alina Pätz from CC Aarau were by far the best of the ten teams. All the numbers and statistics clearly speak for this.

First European title in nine years

In 2018, Silvana Tirinzoni and Alina Pätz – at the time with Melanie Barbezat and Esther Neuenschwander at the front – also reached the European Championship final in Tallinn with 10-0 victories. But they had to be defeated 4:5 by the Swedes led by skip Anna Hasselborg.
