The beach volleyball duo Nina Brunner/Tanja Hüberli, the tennis women and the young boys are shortlisted in the “Team of the Year” category at the Sports Awards on December 10.
The three nominated teams compete to become the successor to the national football team, which received the award for “Team of the Year 2022”. The trio delivered excellent performances in the period between November 1, 2022 and October 31, 2023. The tennis women won the Billie Jean King Cup 2022, the Young Boys football players with the Swiss championship title and the cup victory and the beach volleyball players Nina Brunner/Tanja Hüberli with the European championship title.
The nominees for the prize in the categories ‘Trainer’ and ‘Paralympic Athlete’ of the Year have also been announced. Jan Cadieux (ice hockey), Claudine Müller (athletics) and Thomas Stauffer (alpine skiing) are available as “trainers”. Among the Paralympic athletes, Catherine Debrunner, last year’s winner Marcel Hug and Manuela Schär – all from wheelchair athletics – make the choice among themselves.
The six contenders for the MVP of the Year trophy from team sports have been known for two weeks now. These are Manuel Akanji, Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic (both football), Nico Hischier, Alina Müller (both ice hockey), Laura Künzler (volleyball) and Nikola Portner (handball). Swiss sports fans can choose their favorites in this category at www.sports-awards.ch until November 28.
The winner of this MVP election and the other winners from the other categories will be honored during the TV gala on Sunday, December 10 (live on SRF 1 from 8:05 PM) in the studios of Swiss Radio and Television Zurich. The nominations in the main categories ‘Sportsman of the Year’ and ‘Sportsman of the Year’ are still open. (SDA)
