Switzerland remains the leader: Dos Santos saves a point from the U21 national team in a top match

1/5
Daniel Dos Santos (r.) scores for Switzerland to make it 2-2 against Romania in the 88th minute.

Thanks to a 2-2 draw at home against Romania, the Swiss U21 team will enter qualifying for the 2025 European Championship as unbeaten group leaders next year and the second half of the period.

Thun’s Daniel Dos Santos averted his first defeat in Neuchâtel with his equalizer in the 88th minute in a duel with probably the most dangerous opponent in the battle for the direct European Championship ticket for first place in the group. The Romanians had already been in the lead for almost an hour. Alvyn Sanches from Lausanne scored the first equalizer in the 23rd minute.

Albania’s game was stopped

Coach Sascha S Tauch’s team continues on March 26 with the away match against Albania, the current group in third place, whose match in Montenegro had to be canceled due to the weather when the score was 0-0. Of the nine runners-up in the group, only the best three qualify directly. The remaining six will compete for another three European Championship tickets in the play-offs in November 2024.
