Corinne Suter (29) is probably the biggest Swiss asset for the races on the Matterhorn. With her excellent gliding qualities, the world champion (2021) and Olympic champion (2022) is made for the Gran Becca. “This season I want to be at the front in every race. “Just have fewer ups and downs than last season,” she says. Before Suter dives into this project, she gives Blick insight into her world. These 10 things are especially important to Suter!

This is where I was born and raised: my home. I had a very nice childhood, spent a lot of time outside and played sports. I started skiing at Ibergeregg and we went there very often with the family. I will always carry Schwyz in my heart.
2
They are a symbol that has always accompanied me. As a child I already had the big dream of participating in the Olympic Games. For me they are the soul of the sport, because they connect people from all over the world. That’s why I have two tattoos: the rings and the date of my downhill victory in Beijing, February 15, 2022.

A favorite animal of mine that I always wanted to see in the wild. And last summer it really worked. I was on safari in Sri Lanka for a few days with my friend Angelo, we had to wait a long time, but then the leopard showed up. He got out of a tree and ran towards us. I am very impressed by its strength and elegance, a beautiful animal.

I have been living in Flüelen for several years. It is incredibly beautiful, with Lake Uri and the mountains right on your doorstep. The people of Uri have loved me for a long time and I love them too. I haven’t picked up the dialect yet (grins).
5
I spend a lot of time in the mountains not only in winter, but also in summer. I can relax there, I feel free there. The Grosse Mythen is particularly important to me; in the summer I like to walk along the flanks. Last summer I was there so early that I saw the sunrise – the innkeeper was playing the national anthem – that stuck with me, just beautiful.

My father took my brothers and I to the gym and we enjoyed playing there. At one point I started strength and fitness training myself. I still like it – it’s a kind of lifestyle that I like. There is never a day in the weight room where I have to get over myself. I just like being fit – not just because it helps me ski. I think I’ll still be in the weight room in 20 years.

When I’m in the stable and mucking out, but also when I’m driving, I forget the world around me. That’s very good for me. For years I was allowed to look after Nikito, a colleague’s gray horse. Unfortunately he passed away last summer, he was ill. I still think about him a lot and I don’t think I’ll ever meet a horse like that again. It’s hard to accept that Nikito is gone.

As a child I cheered when the first snow fell. That is still the case today. I can’t be mad if a run is canceled because it’s snowing. The flakes in the air, the fresh snow on the ground and on the trees: there is hardly anything more beautiful.

I estimate that I currently spend three-quarters of my life in gym clothes. I like it all the more to put on an elegant evening dress. Thanks to my sponsors I have been able to do a lot in the fashion sector, I find it fascinating. I also feel much more comfortable in front of the camera than before. When I support something 100 percent, I feel good and I think you can see that in the photos.

I love the sea. But because I live right next to Lake Uri, it means even more to me. I often go swimming before breakfast because it is very good for me, even in winter. This awakens my senses and wakes me up, simply amazing.
