The German football team will have to do without Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the end of this year. The FC Barcelona goalkeeper is suffering from acute back problems and is therefore out of the matches against Austria on Saturday (8.45 pm live on Blick in the ticker) in Berlin and three days later in Vienna. National coach Julian Nagelsmann announced this on Friday before the last training in the Olympic Stadium.
Nagelsmann left open who will be in goal for ter Stegen. “We will wait for the training and then make a joint decision,” said the 36-year-old. In addition to ter Stegen, Kevin Trapp (Frankfurt), Oliver Baumann (Hoffenheim) and Janis Blaswich (Leipzig) are in the German team.
After Manuel Neuer’s serious injury, ter Stegen was promoted to number one in the DFB selection. Neuer will rejoin the national team for the international matches in March. (AFP/dti)
