This is the PostFinance Women’s League: In this competition, ZSC vs. SCB is the main battle!

class=”sc-29f61514-0 fwWrRV”>

This is a paid message from PostFinance
Shannon Sigrist, twin sister of ZSC player Justin, tests SCB goalkeeper Saskia Maurer.

The two ice hockey clubs have won a total of 47 men’s championship titles, making them the two most successful clubs ever. We are talking about HC Davos and SC Bern. Another thing they have in common: Both have only had teams in the top women’s league this season, now called the PostFinance Women’s League. Bern has taken over the women’s team from Bomo Thun, Davos has taken over the Thurgau India Ladies. Both teams were previously big names in women’s ice hockey and reached the semi-finals last season (Bomo even reached the final).

The participation of the hockey heavyweights reflects the spirit of optimism in Swiss women’s ice hockey, which this season has a competition sponsor, PostFinance, for the first time. The objectives of the commitment include professionalization of structures and greater publicity in the context of equal rights.

But who are the eight teams in the PostFinance Women’s League? Who are the stars – and what is the situation in the championship after about two months of play? The overview along the current table:

1

ZSC Lions 10 games/27 points

The women from Zurich remain the benchmark of all things – even if they had to deal with one or two departures after winning the championship. In the first phase of the season they benefited from the excellent class of Alina Müller, who scored an average of 3.6 points per game. However, she is not PostFinance’s top scorer and yet Z is a Swiss, the only one in the competition: Sinja Leemann. It will be interesting to see how head coach Angela Frautschi’s team will handle Müller’s return to North America.

Main stadium: Swiss Life Arena – capacity: 12,000
Trainer: Angela Frautschi
PostFinance top scorer: Sinja Leemann
Players in the national team this season: Alessia Baechler, Mara Frey, Nora Harju, Sinja Leemann, Alina Marti, Alina Müller, Lisa Rüedi, Aurela Thalmann.

2

SC Bern 11 games/25 points

In Bern, EV Bomo Thun was integrated into the largest ice hockey club in Switzerland. This gave the team a lot of momentum. The fact that the home games are played in the Postfinance Arena impresses the opponents. With Lara Christen, one of the strongest Swiss players now plays for the Bernese women.

Main stadium: PostFinance Arena – capacity: 17,031
Trainer: Thomas Zwahlen
PostFinance top scorer: Estelle Duvin
Players in the national team this season: Alizée Aymon, Lara Christen, Emma Ingold, Cindy Joray, Alexandra Lehmann, Alena Lynn Rossel, Saskia Maurer, Jade Surdez.

3

HC Ambri-Piotta Girls 9 games/24 points

After a small earthquake in ice hockey in Ticino and the move of numerous players from Lugano to Leventina, Ambri-Piotta is in the top group. One of the most important success factors is undoubtedly the strong foreign players. Ambri-Piotta can also be expected in this condition in the play-offs.

Main stadium: Gottardo Arena – capacity: 6,775
Trainer: Benjamin Roger
PostFinance top scorer: Fanny Rask
Players in the national team this season: Zoe Merz.

4

HC Davos Ladies 12 games/20 points

To field a women’s team for the first time in the club’s 102-year history, no expense was spared in Davos and part of the successful team from Thurgau was integrated into the club. Despite the many changes, the team presents itself as broadly oriented and surprisingly solid. Besides the ZSC Lions, the Graubünden women are the only team with a woman as head coach: Andrea Kröni.

Main stadium: Davos Ice Stadium – capacity: 7,080
Trainer: Andrea Kroni
PostFinance top scorer: Angela Mason
Players in the national team this season: Janine Hauser, Caroline Spies, Stefanie Wetli.

5

Neuchâtel Hockey Academy 11 games/11 points

With the newly promoted Fribourg and the newly formed team in Bern, the Neuchâtel women have faced prominent competition in their catchment area. Especially since they have no known counterpart in men’s hockey. Nevertheless, they are doing surprisingly well, especially on home ice. In the ancient Pattinoire du Littoral it is usually very difficult to score points.

Main stadium: Patinoire du Littoral – Capacity: 7,000
Trainer: Yan Gigon
PostFinance top scorer: Tetiana Onischenko

6

Hockey Club Ladies Lugano 11 games/7 points

After Ambri-Piotta, the former top club had to deal with internal arguments and the departure of several top players – and dealt with it surprisingly well. With the Japanese Enomoto Yshino, one of the most interesting players in the entire competition has been signed for the Bianconeri. And in goal, the quick-reacting Elisa Biondi offers defensive life insurance.

Main stadium: Corner Arena – Capacity: 7,200
Trainer: Massimo Fedrizzi
PostFinance Top scorers: Enomoto Yoshino

7

HC Fribourg-Gottéron 9 games/6 points

After the climb, the women from Freiburg still have to get used to the higher speed and the more intense pace. Against this backdrop, she defeated the team respectably in the first games of the season. Still, goalkeeper Chiara Pfosi had her hands full. And she will have to continue to prove herself to stay in the competition.

Main stadium: BCF Arena – Capacity: 9,009
Trainer: Valentin Dufour
PostFinance Top scorers: Eleri MacKay

8th

SC Langenthal Ladies 9 games/3 points

There is little to laugh about in Oberaargau these days. With the departure of Lara Christen to SC Bern, the Langenthalers have lost their key player. This is reflected in the points and goals statistics – and in the forecast for the rest of the season. In this situation, coach Nicola Minder’s team is a candidate for relegation. After the withdrawal of the men from the Swiss League last season, it would be the next setback in Langenthal.

Main stadium: Ice Rink Braces – capacity: 4,320
Trainer: Nicola Less
PostFinance Top scorers: Victoria Maskalova
