Now it finally worked. The first women’s downhill training in Zermatt was conducted in cloudy weather.
Due to the strong wind, a practice run could not take place on Wednesday for the upcoming descents on November 18 and 19. Last week’s men’s races were also victims of the weather.
Austrian Christina Ager (28, 1:35.81) set the fastest time on Thursday morning. Behind her are her compatriot Emily Schöpf (23) and the German Kira Weidle (27). From a Swiss perspective, Corinne Suter (29) is leading the way. The 2021 downhill world champion set the fifth fastest time, 0.93 hundredths behind.
The second training is scheduled for Friday. However, it is not yet clear whether this can be implemented. The weather forecasts (snow and precipitation possible) are mixed.
If it goes ahead, the Swiss Noémie Kolly (25, 46th in the first training) and Juliana (25, 56th) and Jasmina Suter (28, 49th) will compete for a ticket. If Thursday’s training is the only one, their times are not crucial for a starting place. In this case, the coaches would award last place. (par)
