Is the weather cooperating?: Ski CEO Flury wants to party in Zermatt, just like Formula 1 star Norris

Lean backwards? That’s out of the question for Jasmine Flury, even after winning the downhill world title.

Champagne? Jasmine Flury (30) rarely drinks alcohol. And yet she wants it more than ever. The reason: it wasn’t there on the biggest day of her career. “TRUE. Neither after the race, nor during the big awards ceremony in the evening. I thought that was a shame,” said the Graubünden resident.

In fact, after her world title in the downhill in Méribel (Friday) last February, Flury was left high and dry; Apparently the OC didn’t feel like showering with champagne. “Now I have to make sure I win again, so that I can still drink champagne on stage,” she says, smiling.

Flury has her first two chances to do so in Zermatt USA – if the weather cooperates. One thing is certain: if Flury wins, she will want to open the champagne bottle in a special way. “Just like Formula 1 driver Lando Norris. At awards ceremonies, he holds the neck of the bottle with both hands, hits the bottle on the ground and the cork flies out by itself. I think that’s really cool,” she says.

The return journey from Stuhec impressed Flury

Without a doubt, her World Cup gold experience was incomparable and wonderful. Yet Flury also had some sleepless nights in the spring. Why? Before the World Cup, things didn’t always go the way she wanted. But then, surprisingly, Flury won World Cup gold. At the same time, she knew that the contract with her ski supplier Fischer expired at the end of the season – she had to think about the future of her equipment.

Flury: “I was impressed with Kästle because two-time world champion Ilka Stuhec has had an impressive season with this brand.” Plus, your ski worked in all snow conditions. “In the spring I tested Fischer’s new ski models for the first time. We then arranged test ski days with Kästle. Back in Monstein, the impending decision gave me a few sleepless nights. Ultimately, I listened to my feelings and chose Team Kästle.”

Like Zurbriggen once did?

Jasmine Flury has not regretted the decision so far. She was also impressed by a visit to the company in Hohenems (Austria) in Vorarlberg, not far from the Swiss border. “Of course we still have a lot of work to do, but I’m really in a good mood about it.”

Flury’s plan is to continue racing at least until the next Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina in 2026. The fast disciplines for women are held in Cortina. On the Tofana – one of her favorite routes.

And who knows: Maybe Flury, like a former, not entirely unknown Kästle pilot, will win Olympic gold in addition to the World Cup gold. His name: Pirmin Zurbriggen (60). Comparing herself to the Valais ski legend, she laughs and says with a smile: “I wouldn’t say no if my medal collection developed like Pirmin Zurbriggen’s.”
