Reader reactions to rejection of Jashari U21: ‘He should get off his high horse’

Not interested in the U21 national team: Ardon Jashari refuses to be part of the squad.

Our U21s play against Armenia on Friday and against Romania on Tuesday. Certainly not there: Ardon Jashari. The Lucerne captain gave the U21 a basket. Not because he is injured or doesn’t feel completely fit; he just doesn’t seem interested in it.

Unsurprisingly, this action makes people shake their heads. Blues expert Rolf Fringer (national coach 1996/97) has clear words: “Arrogant, conceited and disrespectful towards the other U21 players of the national team. Once again there is a bitter aftertaste because of his behavior off the field.” Even FCB legend and former international Beni Huggel (41 international matches) cannot understand it: “Whoever is called up for the country must also go. I don’t know the exact background. But his behavior is certainly observed by Murat Yakin. And he probably didn’t gain any benefit from it.”

“His decision – leave him alone”

Logically, this topic is also hotly debated in Blick’s comments column. Few people understand the 21-year-old. Someone who can understand Jashari’s motives is reader Thomas Kläy: “His decision must be accepted. How many times was he called up when he was fit? Nobody writes about that. It’s too one-sided for me and feels like a driven hunt. Unacceptability and pettiness now seem to be the order of the day.” Rold Adatte also believes that the decision should not be overestimated: “Leave it alone. It’s his decision and if he doesn’t want to, then so be it.”

Is U21 refusenik Jashari on the hook now?

The tenor of the rest of the readership is completely different. For example, Thomas Meier writes: “Jashari is a good football player, there is no doubt about that. And he has talent, has the playmaker in him. But there are many in Switzerland. Of course, not everyone has Jashari’s talent. They have the courage and will to get better. They submit to the team, wait for their opportunity and will get it at some point. Jashari will definitely not be called up for the European Championship. And if Switzerland reaches the World Cup, they will also look for Jashari there in vain.”

“Jashari should get off his high horse”

By the way: the unfounded basket also made those responsible very angry. They are “disappointed,” says Tami. “We didn’t take it well.” But until you know the exact reasons, you don’t want to pass judgment. “And don’t talk about sanctions.” Some readers would like to see exactly such sanctions. From Jashari simply not being called up for the next matches to the demand that the Lucerne native would never play for the Swiss football team again.

Reader Werner Benisowitsch concludes: “Jashari must get off his high horse before he falls on his face. Talent is no longer enough in modern football; it only makes up a few percent. The rest is hard work, but it takes willpower and character – unfortunately I see neither in Jashari. Shame.”
