Next weekend the Formula 1 circus will return to Las Vegas (USA) after more than 40 years. It would have to be one of the most breathtaking races in Formula 1 history. Superbowl style entertainment can be expected.
Of course, a lot of money has to be spent for the prestige race. Ticket prices in Las Vegas are higher than anywhere else. And this despite the fact that prices have fallen rapidly in recent days and weeks.
In August you had to pay the equivalent of more than 2,000 francs for a weekend ticket for the races in the Nevada desert, the coldest GP of the year. The same tickets are now available for just under 1,000 francs.
In addition to weekend tickets, day tickets have also fallen by as much as 50 percent. The reason: the really big rush didn’t happen a week before the race. Greg Maffei (63), CEO of Formula 1 owner Liberty Media, is not worried about that. He is sure the stands will be full. “We still have a handful of tickets and we will be sold out by the time of the race,” he says.
One thing is clear: the tickets are still expensive despite the price drop. However, compared to the VIP packages, the above prices are a piece of cake. The GP’s most expensive ticket package costs – mind you – five million dollars.
That gets you five nights in the three-bedroom Nobu Sky Villa at Caesars Palace, twelve paddock tickets and a number of other VIP extras. The Nobu Sky Villa is located above the race track on the Strip and can accommodate 75 people – so the cost of this package can be split between 75 guests. You end up paying around $66,000 per ticket.
Only one ticket is more expensive than the package mentioned above. The “Wynn Casino Las Vegas” costs one million dollars and is spread over a maximum of six guests. This includes access to the Paddock Club, a three-bedroom two-family house, special dinners, access to the opening ceremony and unlimited golf. (par)
