Stan Wawrinka (38) had a bad last week of the 2023 season. On Wednesday he sprained his ankle in his round of 16 at the Metz ATP tournament and had to abandon the match against Frenchman Luca Van Assche (19, ATP 66) .
On Sunday he shared a message that will probably make his fans very sad. The Vaudois had surgery on his right foot and appears on social networks wearing a stabilizer boot. Luckily, the three-time Grand Slam winner smiles in the photo and writes: “What’s the saying… fall seven times, get up eight?”
With his season already over, Wawrinka will not miss any more tournaments in 2023. But will he be back in early 2024? “I will be back soon,” promises the Vaudois. The next big date on the tour is the Australian Open from January 14.
