Caused unrest at Bayern: Noussair Mazraoui

Moroccan national footballer Noussair Mazraoui (25) of Bayern Munich is no longer allowed to make any further pro-Palestinian statements. Club chairman Herbert Hainer (69) made it clear on Sunday at the annual general meeting of the German record champions: “It is clear to all of us: something like this should not happen again. In general, anti-Semitism has no place in our world!”

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen (56) later confirmed Hainer’s position: “If there is any misconduct in the future, there will also be appropriate sanctions!” FC Bayern, the CEO emphasizes, is “as a club on the side of Israel.”

Clarifying discussions between club and player

Mazraoui shared a post on Instagram stating that the “oppressed brothers in Palestine” must “achieve victory” in the war with Israel. After a “detailed and illuminating conversation”, FC Bayern refrained from any consequences for the Moroccan and emphasized in a statement that Mazraoui condemns “any form of terrorism and any terrorist organization”. The Central Council of Jews, among others, criticized the fact that there were no consequences for the Moroccan.

Hainer said that after Mazraoui’s post, FC Bayern “addressed this complex issue as responsibly as possible.” At the same time, he emphasized in general: “We stand for open cooperation (…), right-wing extremism does not fit into the worldview of FC Bayern Munich.”

At the same time, Dreesen praised Mazraoui, saying he had “expressed very clearly and credibly that he does not harbor any anti-Semitic, anti-Israel or even trivializing ideas about terrorism. “He also expressed his willingness to talk to the Jewish community from the beginning.” (AFP)
