Good news for Liverpool star Luis Diaz.

Luis Diaz (26) can breathe a sigh of relief again. As Colombian newspaper Semana reports, Luis Manuel Diaz, father of the Liverpool star, has been released. Several local media broadcast images of Luis Manuel Diaz arriving in a helicopter at Valledupar airport in the north of the country on Thursday. Diaz was kidnapped by the ELN guerrilla group 12 days ago and is now in police custody.

“We are very pleased that Luis Diaz’s father has returned safely and would like to thank everyone who campaigned for his release,” Liverpool wrote about the starting eleven that is ready (6.45 p.m.).

Diaz’s parents were kidnapped on October 28 from a gas station in their hometown of Barrancas. While the national player’s mother was released on the same day, the guerrilla group continued to detain his father.

He dedicated his goal to his father

“Long live freedom and peace,” Colombian President Gustavo Petro writes on social networks. The Colombian Football Federation also thanks “the national government, the armed forces and the national police, as well as all the institutions and officials” who made the release possible.

The Diaz case caused great concern in the football world. The striker recently made an emotional appeal to the kidnappers to release his father. Last weekend, the footballer dedicated his late equalizer in the Premier League (1-1 against Luton) to his father. ‘Freedom for Dad’ was written on the Colombian’s undershirt. (mou/AFP)
