It happened as expected from the start: Manchester City and RB Leipzig are playing in their own competition in Group G of the Champions League. YB and Red Star Belgrade in another. After the 2-2 draw in Serbia, it is now ultimately about the sausage in Wankdorf. And based on the matches so far, the starting position is such that YB is under pressure to win.
Because Red Star lost by one goal less against both City and Leipzig, the Serbs have a goal difference that is two goals better. This comes into play if the direct encounters are the same. And they would be too if the second game also ends in a draw. Therefore, YB must win to overtake Red Star. Speaking of a full stadium: YB managed to sell all the tickets as packages and thus pulled the plug on the Serbs’ fight for the Red Star match from the start. “I really hope that the stadium ends up in the hands of our fans,” says Benito. “Not that these tickets are still sold on the gray market.”
At Red Star they currently have other problems. After a disappointing draw against neighbors Topola, the hardcore fans, especially the Delije, did not allow the players and staff to leave the dressing room for an hour and tried to teach them that defeats and draws were unacceptable in the national league. The background: The gap with arch enemy Partizan Belgrade has grown to six points. “There are different customs there. That is unthinkable in Switzerland,” says Benito. “But these are problems that shouldn’t concern us much.”
YB will play to win, concludes the Aargauer. And you can definitely play better than in Manchester. However, this is not very difficult.
