Super10 battle in the Hallenstadion: Federer delights 12,000 fans as a surprise guest

The unannounced appearance of Roger Federer (42) is the icing on the cake for the 12,000 sports fans in the Hallenstadion who will attend this year’s Super10 fight. And also for some top athletes who participate in the lively game evening. Wrestling king Christian Stucki (38) says: “He is the biggest! I was always very nervous during his matches.” Federer is greeted with a standing ovation in the Hallen Stadium. The twenty-time Grand Slam winner is there as an ambassador for his foundation – and as a supporter of his 168 Sporthilfe talents from the past 16 years. Federer jokes and apologizes: “I think it was a mistake that I didn’t come to the Super10 fight earlier – in this atmosphere! No seriously, of course I was always a bit afraid of injuries during my career and that unfortunately did not fit in my tournament plan.”

Rowing star Jeannine Gmelin (33) also received a special applause. She gives the notice of dismissal. After her trainer and partner Robin Dowell (†40) died last December during a training trip, the world and European champion initially drew a line under her career. Now she focuses again on the 2024 Olympic Games: “I notice that my path is not ready yet.”

For the first time this year, the teams will also have prominent coaches. One of them is ski legend Beat Feuz (36), who leads Team Green and is participating in the Super10 battle for the first time. To protect his body after retiring last winter, he decided to take up coaching. Laughing: “A bit of conducting is also fun. But I think I’m more of a calm coach and not throwing around like Jurgen Klopp.”

Ex-artistic gymnast Pablo Brägger (30) talks about his marriage to his Stefanie in a live interview. At the wedding, a small accident happened to him: “Unfortunately, my pants tore when I bent over,” he says into the microphone, causing loud laughter in the stadium: “But that lightened the mood and it turned out to be a huge party.”

Biathlon hopeful Amy Baserga, 23, reveals a special eating ritual before her races as part of the show. The woman from Schwyz always eats rice with… jam. How is that possible? “It just tastes better,” Baserga explains with a laugh, adding: “Unfortunately I can’t tolerate everything before a match.”

The evening is led by the astute presenter duo Jennifer Bosshard (30) and Sascha Ruefer (51). Last year this honor went to comedian Stefan Büsser (38) and ex-ski racer Tina Weirather (34). The latter announced her pregnancy in September and will work as SRF’s ski expert until January. And on Friday she shared her anticipation of the baby with Belinda Bencic, 26 – writing on Instagram: “Such great news, congratulations.”

Steve Schennach, Managing Director of Schweizer Sporthilfe, announced before the start of the event that Paralympic athletes would also participate for the first time. Bronze medalist in the long jump Elena Kratter (27) is very enthusiastic: “It is super cool to participate here.”

The crowd favorite of the event, the official ‘Gladiator 2023’, will be top wrestler Samuel Giger (25). When he picked up the golden helmet he won and later visited presenter Ruefer, he asked him: “Do I have to keep the helmet on?” Ruefer then teases, “I think you almost look better.” Everyone laughs. Also Giger, who says: “I am completely surprised that I received this award.”

Former top triathlete and Super10 fight coach Nicola Spirig (41) already knew it during the show: “I think we have the best team of the evening.” And that’s exactly how it happens: in the end, your yellow team triumphs. The winners of the evening are: athlete Angelica Moser (26), diver Michelle Heimberg (23), professional cyclist Stefan Bissegger (25) and snowboarder Nicolas Huber (28). By the way: the spectacle organized by Swiss Sport Aid will be broadcast on SRF 1 on December 16 at 8:10 PM.
