Young boss has to go: the next big thing at the Swiss Bobsleigh Association

Rapid changes of direction, not only on the bobsleigh track (here Melanie Hasler in St. Moritz): the staff is also changing diligently within the association.

The bobsleigh club will not relax before the new season. Now the young boss Dominik Scherrer (59) is also gone. Important management positions at Swiss Sliding are now filled with ad-interim solutions.

But first things first. According to the announcement, Scherrer and Swiss Sliding will part ways “by mutual agreement”. According to information from Blick, the Aargauer was no longer allowed to continue.

But it is no coincidence that the next blow comes just a few weeks after sports director Fabienne Meyer was fired. Meyer and Scherrer are good companions. When Meyer was active, the Aargauer was first the association’s sports director, then its private coach, and later the duo worked together for bobsleigh in Great Britain.

When Meyer became the first woman to become head of sport in Switzerland in 2020, Scherrer’s intervention landed her the job as head of the junior team shortly afterwards. And now, after Meyer retired, Scherrer is history again. Also because the situation for young talent, especially among men, does not look particularly rosy. The resignation of promising flying talent Fabian Gisler (21) was a serious setback.

Now ex-athletes Marina Gilardoni and Rico Peter are taking over

After Meyer’s resignation, it became completely clear that Scherrer and the association were pursuing completely different philosophies in the junior sector, including communications. The divorce is the logical consequence.

Now winter is just around the corner. The selection flights in Lillehammer are already over. To fill the gaps in the ranks of civil servants, Swiss Sliding fills them with people who already exist. Scherrer’s successor will be ex-pilot Rico Peter (40), who is already head of the bobsleigh division, on an interim basis. And Meyer is being followed by another woman, at least for now. Marina Gilardoni (36) will become head of competitive sports on an interim basis, while Meyer will take over her former bobsleigh pusher.

Gilardoni is the retired vice world skeleton champion. In the summer, the St. Gallen native became head of the skeleton division – and is now head of the entire sporting area even before the first race. We bet she will take over immediately if she likes the many new tasks?
