On Tuesday it was announced that the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office had issued a criminal warrant against Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev (26). In concrete terms, he was fined 450,000 euros. The accusation: Zverev is alleged to have been guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea (29) in May 2020.
The exact wording of the indictment reads: “The suspect is accused of physically abusing a woman and damaging her health during an argument in Berlin in May 2020.”
Now Zverev has also commented for the first time on the sidelines of the Masters 1000 tournament in Paris (Friday). “I think this is complete nonsense,” the German told the AFP news agency. And Zverev continues with even more clear words. “Anyone with a reasonably normal IQ knows what this is about.”
Immediately after the criminal order became known, Zverev’s lawyer published a statement. “Mr Zverev rejects the allegations made against him,” it said. And his criminal lawyers announced that he would take all possible action against it. (beer)
