Motorcycle highlight during the final in Jerez: Aegerter races to the Superbike podium for the first time

At first it looks like a Swiss disappointment at the season finale of the Superbike World Championship in Jerez. The bike of Dominique Aegerter (33) loses a lot of oil after two laps in the Superpole race, the sprint race on Sunday in this championship, and therefore misses the ideal line.

Another zero like in the race on Saturday? No. The sprint is canceled due to the oil spill. Aegerter jumps on his spare Yamaha and can start again. This time he uses his second starting position, the best in his Superbike debut year.

Two of the big three reports

And how: Aegerter first leads the sprint and then races to his first podium place of the season in second place behind world champion Alvaro Bautista (38). With former champions Jonathan Rea (36) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (27), the Rohrbacher leaves behind the two other big names in the Superbike World Championship in addition to Bautista.

This trio has achieved the most podium places this year. Now Aegerter has finally achieved his big goal for his debut Superbike season with a second place. The second half of the season has been quite difficult so far. But at the final in Jerez the newcomer to the class is once again in the lead.

In the main race on Sunday afternoon, Aegerter can now race from the front row again. Will he be on stage again? The two-time supersport world champion was still in trouble on Saturday – after electrical damage he fell far behind and scored no points. That’s all forgotten now with the first podium.
