Everything starts more than three hours before kick-off. Together with Blick video reporter Damian Seiler, I am looking for Manchester City fans who are getting ready for the Champions League match against YB. At first glance there are hardly any English people to be seen. It is probably also due to the weather; After all, it is raining quite hard on this Wednesday afternoon.

Unsurprisingly, we still found what we were looking for in an Irish pub in the middle of Bern’s old town. When we enter the pub and start talking to the first of more than thirty fans, a few suddenly wave at me. I wonder if I should know them or why they do this.

The question becomes redundant a few seconds later. Because suddenly the cries of “Bernardooo, Bernardooo, Bernardooo” echo through the pub. At the same time, someone explains to me: “You look exactly like Bernardo Silva, our player.” Another asks me when I’m going to warm up since the match is about to start. A third person takes out their iPhone, searches the Internet for a photo of the real Bernardo Silva and makes a direct comparison. It is now clear to him: I must be Bernardo Silva. Everyone laughs. The mood is extremely good. They say they will never forget me. And say goodbye with cries of “Bernardooo”.

I think it’s funny and I’m somewhat flattered. But I don’t completely agree. Perhaps the comparison could also have something to do with the beer that flowed. Because apart from the beard, I personally don’t see any major similarities.

Silva provides laughs

But what does the original Bernardo Silva think of this? After the match I wait for a good hour in the mixed zone in the belly of Wankdorf. Player after player marches past the reporters accompanied by a Securitas. No sign of Silva for a long time.

But then suddenly he’s on his way. I try to stop him and tell him about the meeting with the City fans. He stops and turns around. “What do you think, do we look alike?” I ask him.
