For ice hockey fans, it has become a ritual that sweetens your morning. The first thing you do is look at which Swiss scored goals and assists in the NHL that night.
In recent years, reports of success from abroad have been the order of the day. The time when a Swiss goal was something special seemed long gone. Last season the Swiss scored 184 goals, surpassing the record set the year before (169). And Timo Meier also set an individual Swiss NHL record with 40 goals.
But this season we wait in vain for the first Swiss goal almost two weeks after the start. Our eight outfield players Timo Meier, Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler (all New Jersey Devils), Kevin Fiala (Los Angeles Kings), Roman Josi (Nashville Predators), Nino Niederreiter (Winnipeg Jets), Pius Suter (Vancouver Canucks) and Janis Jérôme Moser (Arizona Coyotes) has played so far without scoring a single goal.

Only one Swiss player has scored more points than the defensive back from Zurich so far: even if Kings star Fiala is still goalless, he can be satisfied with his statistics. He provided 7 assists in 5 games and harmonizes perfectly with the new striker Pierre-Luc Dubois (ex-Winnipeg).
Predators captain Josi has three assists and Niederreiter has two. Just like Hischier still with “glasses” (0 goals, 0 assists), Suter and Moser are there. The latter has new competition in the Coyotes’ defense and is no longer used in the power play.
When will a Swiss break the spell? It certainly won’t last long. It can happen as early as the next early morning check-up.
