Uli Forte poisons, Simonow shoots back: Xamax and Nyon is a new hate duel

Arsonist Uli Forte? As a rule, he sharpens his players considerably.

Once in the 1997 Cup and twice in the Promotion League in the 2014/25 season. Those were the only times Challenge League promoted Stade Nyonnais and three-time champions Xamax Neuenburg met before meeting together again this season in the second division.

And now there is rumbling on both sides. And how!

The two direct matches are close and both end 1-1. It goes back and forth. Sharp tackles. Hot fans. An angry staff on both sides. And both times someone added a lot of fuel to the fire: Xamax coach Uli Forte.

Forte calls the game management crazy…

After last weekend’s 1-1 draw, it sounds like this: “They are pure provocateurs. You saw a lot of fouls from behind. That got out of hand because the referee failed to show a yellow card. And in the end we get more cards than our opponent. Thats crazy!”

And then Forte really gets to work: “The problem starts with the fact that Nyon should not be in the Challenge League. They’re in the wrong league. Not playing a match is against the ethics of football. You then compete with the U21, with the B, C or even D team. But you play.” Forte is referring to the fact that Nyon did not play against Brühl St. Gallen at the end of last season. In protest against what, according to the residents of Vaud, was initially wrongly denied a permit.

…and complained that Nyon was in the wrong class

A forfeit that has no impact on the championship. In the second instance, Nyon is given the license and promoted. ‘You just don’t do something like that! If I had been responsible in the competition, I would have deducted twenty points. What if everyone did that?” The question is rhetorical.

Forte’s polemical comments do not go unanswered. “The Xamax coach is talking about fair play?” says general manager Varujan Simonov, and the question is just as rhetorical. “So we’re talking about the same club that went to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport last season so they didn’t have to play in the Barrage even though they finished last in the Challenge League.” The Nyon official noticed Forte in the first match in Nyon when a goal net needed to be repaired. “Forte immediately went to the assistant referee and asked him if he could lodge a protest.”

Forte is under enormous pressure after seven games without a win

What does Forte have against Nyon? Simonow thinks that the Xamax coach must have come under enormous pressure after seven games without a win, which followed the good start to the season and the now tenth winless Romand derby. “Otherwise you wouldn’t do something like that.”

Nyon coach Christophe Caschili tries to de-escalate something: “We deserve to be promoted. The players did their job on the field. And we received the permit in the second instance. So we also did our job off the field. Point. “I don’t understand why this story is resurfacing six months later, from a club that was not involved at all.”

And then there is the accusation that Forte had put extreme pressure on his team before the match against Nyon. “I got my players excited,” Forte said. But he always does that. Say. And smiles mischievously.
