The MotoGP sprint at the Australian Grand Prix on Phillip Island was canceled due to poor weather conditions. The decision to cancel the sprint was made about half an hour before the scheduled race. The sprint was actually supposed to be held on Saturday, but due to poor weather forecasts it was decided to change the program and instead move the main race forward one day.
Previously, the Moto2 race had to be stopped early after eight laps due to strong wind and rain. On Saturday, the MotoGP main race could still be held over the full distance of 27 laps. Frenchman Johann Zarco won his first Grand Prix in this category in his 120th attempt. (mbi/SDA)
