Lionel Messi is the highest-earning player in MLS.

Major League Soccer (MLS) is booming – the move of world star Lionel Messi (36) to Inter Miami has contributed a lot to this. It is not surprising that the Argentinian is not only on top of the rest of the competition in terms of football, but also financially. Because as the annually published MLS figures show, the world champion is the new coal king of American football.

Accordingly, Messi earns the equivalent of 19.3 million euros annually in Miami. This amount consists of the basic salary (almost eleven million) and various bonus payments. This makes him by far the highest-earning player in the MLS.

However, this only takes into account the salary received directly from Inter Miami. According to reports, Messi will earn a total of between 47 and 57 million euros thanks to a share of the competition’s marketing rights.

Shaqiri takes bronze in the salary rankings

Back to the MLS salary rankings. Toronto’s Italian Lorenzo Insigne (32), 2021 European champion, completed the podium with a wage of 14.6 million euros. And Nati star Xherdan Shaqiri (32), who earns around 7.7 million euros at Chicago.

Spicy: Inter Miami and Toronto are currently not successful in the sport despite mega salaries for the stars. It is already clear that both teams will miss the play-offs. Shaqiri’s Chicago, on the other hand, still has a chance to participate, but must win a final against New York City FC on Sunday. (sbe)
