There were terrible scenes in Brussels on Monday evening: an Islamist terrorist shot dead two Swedish football fans – including a man living in Switzerland – before the European Championship qualifier between Belgium and Sweden.
The match in the King Baudouin Stadium initially went normally until half-time. But when word of the stop reached the teams during the break, the match was stopped when the score was 1-1.
Now UEFA has decided on the assessment of the match. As the continental association has announced, the halftime score is considered the final result. Accordingly, both Belgium, who have already qualified, and Sweden, who have already been eliminated, will receive one point each.
UEFA also announces new decisions regarding Israel. Until further notice, the Executive Committee will no longer allow UEFA matches to take place in Israel due to security reasons. The teams Maccabi Haifa (Europa League) and Maccabi Tel Aviv (Conference League) represented in the European Cup must therefore propose alternative locations outside the country to UEFA where they can play the remaining home matches.
