Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah calls for an end to the war in Gaza.

Mohamed Salah (31) is the face of the Arab sports world. The ex-FCB star has long been elevated to icon status in his home country of Egypt and across the Middle East. His word has weight in the region.

Now he is using his voice to call for peace in the Middle East. In a 51-second video message, Salah addressed the international community on Wednesday evening and called for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip. Within half an hour, the video had a million likes on Instagram alone.

“Humanity must prevail”

‘There is too much violence, heartbreak and brutality. The escalation of recent weeks is unbearable. All life is sacred and must be protected,” Salah begins his statement. The ultimate goal should be to send humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. “The people of Gaza urgently need food, water and medical care.”

Finally, Salah called on politicians to put an end to the violence as soon as possible. “I call on world leaders to come together to prevent further slaughter of innocent souls. Humanity must prevail.”

Not the first footballer to comment

Salah is not the first footballer to comment on the conflict. In recent days, Bundesliga players Anwar El Ghazi (Mainz) and Noussair Mazraoui (Bayern) have been criticized for pro-Palestinian positions. El Ghazi has been provisionally released by Mainz. As “Bild” writes, Mazraoui was also missing from Bayern’s training today. (sbe)
