The French government has made serious accusations against Karim Benzema (35). Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said in an interview with French news channel CNews: “Monsieur Karim Benzema, as we all know, has clear ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.”
The Muslim Brotherhood is considered a terrorist organization in several countries, including Benzema’s home country France. Benzema himself immediately responded to the serious accusations. The French international reported to “Le Parisien” through his lawyer Hugues Vigier: “That is not right! Karim Benzema has never had the slightest connection with this organization.”
The lawyer also adds that Benzema has decided to live in Saudi Arabia. A country that, unlike France, bans the Muslim Brotherhood. Benzema is now considering suing Interior Minister Darmanin for defamation and public insult. “It is unacceptable that those who govern believe they have the right to do something out of pure opportunism,” said lawyer Vigier.
Benzema will also file a defamation lawsuit against MEP Nadine Morano and publicist Frank Tapiro. Les Républicains politician Morano described Benzema as “a propaganda element of Hamas”, while Tapiro accused the Al-Ittihad attacker of a “collaborator” and “accomplice to terrorism”.
The trigger for the violent hostility from his French homeland was a message from Benzema on X, formerly Twitter, about the war between Israel and Palestine. “All our prayers go out to the people of Gaza, who are once again victims of unjust bombings that do not spare women and children,” Benzema wrote on October 15.
Lawyer Vigier tells Morano and Tapiro had “deeply and unbearably hurt” Benzema’s honor with their statements.
The senator for the Bouches-du-Rhône region, Valérie Boyer, went further. She demanded that Benzema’s French citizenship be revoked. “Such a measure, which is impossible against a native Frenchman with French parents, would only be reminiscent of Nazi Germany in Europe,” said lawyer Hugues Vigier, commenting on this proposal.
